Keep your color FRESH

We’ve asked our stylists, and here are our TOP TIPS to keep your color looking it’s best!

Use sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner: Sulfates can strip the hair of its natural oils and color, so it’s best to use gentle, sulfate-free products that won’t cause any damage or fading (we LOVE the shampoos and condititoners from Pulp Riot!)

Wash your hair less frequently: Frequent washing can cause your hair color to fade more quickly. Try to wash your hair no more than two to three times a week.

(Need a dry shampoo? One of our top picks of all time is Amika’s Perk Up! It’s not just us! check out this review on what makes it the #1 dry shampoo in America!)

Use cool water: Hot water can open up the hair cuticle and cause color to fade faster. Rinsing your hair with cool water can help to seal the cuticle and preserve your color.

Use UV protection: Just like the sun can damage your skin, it can also damage your hair color. Look for hair products that contain UV protection to help prevent fading.

Avoid heat styling: Heat styling tools like flat irons and curling irons can damage your hair and cause your color to fade faster. We know! Impossible right? it’s ok, if you’re going to know them, just know the risks and use a heat protectant product before styling.

Get regular touch-ups: Depending on the type of color treatment you have, you may need to get touch-ups every four to six weeks. Regular touch-ups can help to keep your color looking fresh and vibrant, prevent overlap and damage, and allow the stylists to glaze the ends with fresh color to protect and prevent more fading

…and don’t forget that everyone’s hair is different, so what works for one person may not work for another. It’s always best to consult with a professional stylist to get personalized recommendations for your hair type and color treatment

LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT:

It is with great respect and humility that we acknowledge that we gather and create on the traditional land of the Dakota people and the many other tribes that have stewarded it for generations.  This beautiful and often complicated city has been the ancestral home to the Dakota people, as well as a home to the Ojibwe (Anishinaabeg), Ho-Chunk, Cheyenne, Oto, Iowa, Sauk and Meskwaki people over generations.  The continual strategic disenfranchisement of the colonial settlers on the native peoples of this land have diminished but not deterred the capacity for acknowledgement of the many gifts, strengths, voices, and achievements of the indigenous people that have come before, as well as  those that remain in our communities.
