BLACK GARNET BOOKS

FIND OUT WHAT ELSE IS GOING ON

Minneapolis is filled with book stores all throughout the state that are locally owned and operated, but now there’s a new store on it’s way! Dionne Sims is the founder of Black Garnet Books who’s mission is to “radicalize your bookshelves” through adult and YA contemporary literature written by black and diverse authors. Did I mention Black Garnet Books is the only- Queer-Black owned bookstore in Minnesota? With the protests surrounding the racial injustice of George Floyd’s death, the call for change and equality is prominent. With the goal of opening their own physical space put on hold due to COVID, Black Garnet Books will open as an online book store soon! Stay up to date with whats’s happening by following their socials for updates and news.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT:

It is with great respect and humility that we acknowledge that we gather and create on the traditional land of the Dakota people and the many other tribes that have stewarded it for generations.  This beautiful and often complicated city has been the ancestral home to the Dakota people, as well as a home to the Ojibwe (Anishinaabeg), Ho-Chunk, Cheyenne, Oto, Iowa, Sauk and Meskwaki people over generations.  The continual strategic disenfranchisement of the colonial settlers on the native peoples of this land have diminished but not deterred the capacity for acknowledgement of the many gifts, strengths, voices, and achievements of the indigenous people that have come before, as well as  those that remain in our communities.
