Aveda loves animals

Aveda was born committed to being cruelty free and has always opposed the use of animal testing, preferring for their products are “people-tested”, instead.

While not testing on animals is a good move the entire offering from Aveda has been 100% vegan. That’s right! , As  January 1, 2021 their products are completely free of any animal or animal by-product.

Made right here in Minnesota

Aveda’s Blaine, Minnesota manufacturing plant is certified as a wildlife habitat by the National Wildlife Federation. They’ve worked with NWF to create “drive with care” signs so they can help protect wildlife on their solar-power supplemented, pollinator friendly campus.

What goes in the products, as well as where they are made is important. We also love their innovative responsible packaging, manufacturing and their carbon free shipping, which you can read all about here.

Driven by Principle and Partnerships

In keeping with Ayurvedic principles, because of Aveda’s concern for the Earth Aveda,  is committed to using organic ingredients. This has led to another Ayurvedic partnership between Aveda and the Indian firm, Nisarga.

Nisargra, which means “nature” in Sanskrit, grows Ayurvedic herbs with organic agriculture. They have partnered with them to obtain organic turmeric and amla for use in some of their products, like the Invati™ Solutions for Thining Hair.

Nisarga employs an environmentally friendly extraction method using CO2, which leaves no toxic residues and works at a lower temperature.  Smart practices like these yield highly potent extracts.

Supporting Sustainability

Because of the company’s concern about the dangers of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, Nisarga works to encourage farmers to convert to organic agriculture. They have held regular educational seminars for about 35,000 farmers over the years, convincing many to go organic. Nisarga pays the organic certification costs for the farmers they partner with and also provides educational support to help make the conversion successful.

Education, the environment, science, and art… it’s pretty obvious how this Minnesota-born company, founded by the legendary Horst Rechelbacher, won our hearts with its products and priorities.

We love helping you with 20% off all of your favorite AVEDA products, but the BEST support we can give you is KNOWLEDGE!

LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT:

It is with great respect and humility that we acknowledge that we gather and create on the traditional land of the Dakota people and the many other tribes that have stewarded it for generations.  This beautiful and often complicated city has been the ancestral home to the Dakota people, as well as a home to the Ojibwe (Anishinaabeg), Ho-Chunk, Cheyenne, Oto, Iowa, Sauk and Meskwaki people over generations.  The continual strategic disenfranchisement of the colonial settlers on the native peoples of this land have diminished but not deterred the capacity for acknowledgement of the many gifts, strengths, voices, and achievements of the indigenous people that have come before, as well as  those that remain in our communities.
