Artist Bio

Jesus Ramirez was born in 1975 in East Los Angeles to Luz and Oscar Ramirez. The younger brother of Fabian and Donahue, the latter of whom passed away at the age of 20. In Los Angeles, Jesus found himself slipping into a world of drugs and gangs, which eventually led to him dropping out of high school in the tenth grade.

In 1995, Jesus moved to the Twin Cities, earned his GED, and attended Minneapolis Community College where he founded the first Latino student organization; this took him to Metropolitan State University, where he earned his bachelor’s in biology and will soon be starting his masters. Jesus is a passionate educator and works with teachers on culturally-responsive pedagogy; he also speaks nationally on issues of racial equity. Jesus is a tireless activist, striving to better his community for future generations. Jesus counts his 13-year-old daughter, Xiomara, and his fiancé, Emily, as his greatest supporters.
